Blowing off the dust...

I had nearly forgotten about this diary of mine! How could I have forgotten to write anything this past term? It must have been a busy one. But it was great fun indeed!

Summer term classes are, as you know, different from the usual. Instead of Potions and Transfigurations, professors teach us stuff like canoeing and cooking. My favourite class last term was Elements of Harry Potter. Prof. LaPlace provided lots of fresh insight on the first novel of the Harry Potter series, and I learnt lots about how an author can change her reader's perspective towards her different characters by her writing!

While I wait for the Fall term to begin, I've begun to do some extra reading on the Muggle mathematician, Pythagoras. Although I had to drop Arithmancy last term, I was struck by what the professor had said about Pythagoras influencing modern Arithmancy. Apparently, this man, revered by the Muggles, was also a wizard! No wonder the Greek Muggles thought there was something fishy about this guy...

I'm beginning to think that Maths is the Muggles' magic. Such beauty in the formulae, and the patterns it describes, can only be described as magical! And what was it that mathematician Paul Erdos said? 'A mathematician is a device for turning coffee cups into theorems.' Surely there must be some strong transfigurational magic at work here.

Maths used to fascinate me when I was in primary school. Chichi-ue approved of the intellectual exploits it encouraged, but I doubt he would be pleased with my interest with Arithmancy now, since that's more like Divinations than Maths. Still, I'm curious to know if numbers can really predict events in one's life. We'll just have to wait and see...

That reminds me, I've signed up for nine classes next term. I hope I can find the time for all of them!
